Our Mission

Survivors Of Homicide, Inc. (S.O.H.)  is a primary resource and source of strength for other survivors of homicide. We are committed to educate our communities and advocate for fair treatment of survivors of crime, to ensure the criminal justice system will treat victims and their families with courtesy, respect, and above all dignity, compassion, and justice. We believe that violence prevention is the key to the elimination of the devastation caused by homicide. Therefore we focus our efforts in the community and schools the prevention of violence.

Organization Profile

Survivors Of Homicide, Inc. (S.O.H.) began in 1989 as a spin-off of the Washington, D.C. Crime Victims Assistance Program. The founders are survivors who were members of the counseling group, began meeting at The Randall School Building to offer peer support and identify ways and means to help the growing numbers of survivors experiencing the same horrific situation that they found themselves thrust into.

Survivors Of Homicide, Inc. (S.O.H.) serves individuals who have special ties of kinship with persons murdered and who are therefore victimized not only by the loss of someone close, but also by the horrific circumstances of that untimely death. These individuals include family members, close friends, neighbors, school mates and members of the community at large.

The goal of S.O.H. are to help heal the grievous hearts and to reach out to our youth and adult community to inform them that are alternatives to violence when confronted with heated disputes.

We are committed to making a difference and invite your comments, suggestions and above all your time through volunteering and needed contributions as we are a non profit organization.
